Perfect for cleaning, gardening, washing your car, dishes, fun! fun! fun!
I was was watching a few moments of T.V earlier this year and happen to catch a program where they were talking about super cool Gift Ideas, this could have been a repeat as this was January but what caught my eye were these super cute Rubber Gloves. These were not your ordinary pair they were spruced up a notch or two. So being someone that loves great products quickly looked up the Name that the two Women on the program were so happily chatting about. {I was not the only one loving them} and sure Enough I found the wonderful company behind all the chatter on T.V called Gloveables®.
I was even more thrilled when I was generoulsy sent a wonderful Pair of Gloveables®, a Vintage Glovables Apron, and a really neat and handy stylish Key Finder from a company called bonjour! Lindy Kummings started Gloveables®, Inc. in 2002. A native Chicagoan and the mother of two boys, Lindy was endowed with the entrepreneurial spirit. She attributes this to her father Harry Katz., owner of Stock Yards, a well-known Chicago meat packing company, where she worked on weekends as a kid. In 1973, Lindy moved to Los Angeles after graduating from Babson Business School in Wellesley, Massachussets.
In 1994, Lindy was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. All of a sudden, life held new meaning for her. Her particular type of cancer required her to undergo radical surgery removing half her pelvis and her hip, making one of her legs three inches shorter than her other one. She was told that she might not come out of the operation alive, and that if she did, she would probably never walk unassisted again. Determined to beat the disease, she put her then successful real estate career on hold to fight her battle with cancer and spend time with her husband John and two boys Zach and Scott. After four months of debilitating chemotherapy and life threatening surgery, Lindy, ever the warrior, emerged from the ordeal victorious. This brush with her own mortality has intensified her zest for living. She has exceeded her surgeon's expectations, and he now uses her as a role model for his patients. Don't be surprised if you run into her at a spinning class, hiking, or even skiing!
In 2001, after she had fully recovered from the physical and emotional toll that cancer had taken on her, Lindy begain brainstorming. This is when she came up with the idea to apply colorful pleated oilcloth borders and attach them to standard rubber gloves to combine fashion with function! Only a year later, a patent was issued and Gloveables was born. Lindy was forced to take a reprieve from her company in 2004 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In her typical fashion, she refused to let this stand in her way. She has since recovered, and Gloveables are as unstoppable as ever. They have appeared in "O," "British Vogue," "Readers Digest," and countless other publications. And the character Bree Van De Kamp wore them on the hit show "Desperate Housewives." They are sold nationwide in upscale boutiques and specialty stores. In December 2005, Lindy merged her company into Grandway Honduras so she could focus her creative talent, time and energy on design, which is her greatest strength.
As I said I was thrilled at the opportunity to be able to get my hands on a pair of Gloveables. I am always busy at home either cleaning, doing dishes, , doing...ok always it seems doing stuff and sometime you need gloves to throw on. What more can I say than that the Gloveables® Apron I reviewed is well made and the quality is superb. The adjustable ties at the back are very handy for adjusting the size according to your shape, and the overall stitching quality is super. This is not something you would find just anywhere, lets say.
