Owned and opereated by The Schneider's and The Lockley's, Superiour Soapnuts is located west and north of beautiful Lake Superior in the heart of fishing and outdoor activity country. Superior Soapnuts are the dried fruit from the Ritha (sapindus mukorossi) tree. There are other types of trees that produce a poorer grade of soapnuts. The ones that Superior imports contain very high amounts of saponin. Saponin is the substance which gives the soapnuts their cleaning power.

Many of these trees were once logged for income. Happily their supplier, among others, are now harvesting the soapnuts which is a renewable resource in turn creating a sustainable income for Nepalese people in local areas.
The tree produces a small fruit that is surrounded by an outer shell. The fruit is harvested and the outer shell dried and used as a natural, biodegradable and compostable laundry detergent.
When added to water the soap nuts release saponins which are natural surfactants. They reduce surface tension of the water and free the dirt and grime from cloths.

I do alot of cleaning with having 4 children, and I do alot of Laundry in my house so when I was given a 100g bag of SoapNuts to try out I was thrilled. I use an all natural cleaner currently so like everyone I really wondered "What it is about Soap Nuts" and Can or Could it clean my clothes?"

My Review!!

I have never seen fresh Soap Nuts and the Soap Nuts that I was sent by the Company are super fresh. Superiour Soap Nuts also sent along a small wash bag for my daily laundry use. Super easy to use, you simply toss 3-5 whole Soap Nuts in the bag and tie in the washbag, give it small wack with your hammer or rolling pin!!, this really releases the saponin and voila your ready to wash clothing. You are able to reuse the Shells from 4 - 8 times making SoapNuts very useful.

At Superiour Soap Nuts they believe that once you have tried using soapnuts, you will never want to go back to chemical detergents. There is no need to use fabric softeners either. Your clothes are left naturally soft. Towels and wash cloths are more absorbent. They are certainly right!! I did find that my clothes smelled very clean right out of the wash. And out of the dryer they were fresh and fluffy. I like a natural clean smell so SoapNuts did a great job at doing just that. For an all Natural product Superior Soap Nuts certainly washed my laundry. With superior cleaning action on my laundry I am certainly going to be trying out the other uses Soap Nuts have.

Shells can be used for more than one wash but the number of washes per shell bag will depend on the water temperature used. Washing at lower temperatures, the soapnuts can be used more often. You will know the soapnuts need to be replaced when they become thin and dull with no shiny pockets of saponin left in them. *The picture below are the Soap Nuts I used after 4 washings only , There is still some saponin left to keep using them!! Very very cool!

Did you know that once used, soapnuts break down completely leaving no toxic chemical residue behind? You can throw the used shells in the compost.

Soapnuts are ready to use with no chemical processing! Straight off the tree they can be used for laundry. They can be boiled to make an all purpose natural liquid cleaner. This can be used for household cleaning or for a body wash and "shampoo". Soapnuts are great for anyone with chemical allergies or sensitive skin.
